How do I make a referral for a pediatric patient, or have my child referred to The Therapy Place?

Talk to your pediatrician. Your pediatrician can answer questions about normal physical gross motor development, speech and language development and fine motor and sensory needs. Ask your pediatrician to fax a prescription stating which therapies recommended and "Evaluation and Treat" to Attention: The Therapy Place at fax number: 803-787-0300. Be sure to include a diagnosis.

You may also call us at 803-787-3033 to provide us the information required over the phone, or stop by our facility and bring directly to our staff.

Does The Therapy Place accept Medicaid insurance?

Yes, we currently accept all forms of Medicaid. Please contact us directly to discuss your specific insurance questions and concerns.

What will happen once my child has been referred?

Once your insurance has been verified, we will make contact you to schedule an evaluation for your child. Evaluations typically last between 45 minutes to 1 hour. We request you arrive at least 20 minutes prior to your child's schedule time to complete necessary patient information. We also ask the parent or caregiver remain present during all evaluations to provide relevant history and information to the therapist as requested. Please bring any previous therapy or discharge paperwork that may be helpful in documenting your child's medical history.

What will happen after the evaluation is completed?

After the evaluation has been completed, the therapist will educate you on the recommended frequency (ie. once a week, twice a week, etc) and duration of the treatment (45 or 60 minutes). Immediately following your child's evaluation, as recommended, we will schedule your child's therapy appointments. We attempt to schedule your child's initial evaluation in a time slot that will work for following treatment times.

What if I cannot make the evaluation or therapy appointment?

We respectfully ask you contact The Therapy Place at 803-787-3033 at least 24 hours in advance to cancel or reschedule your therapy evaluation or treatment appointment.
