As mothers of children with Cerebral Palsy, Dawn Darby and Susan Abell found innovative and intensive therapies in cities no less than three hours by car.  While these therapies provided an increase in the number of hours of therapy, these therapies were not covered by insurance or Medicaid and the travel meant high costs and extended time away from home.  However, the sacrifice proved beneficial as they saw significant gains in their sons’ development, improvements that included gains in strength, independence and to their overall quality of life.  Abell and Darby knew other families would want the same benefits for their own children.  The Therapy Place was incorporated in March of 2008, received 501(c)3 status within just a few months and started its first pilot project of Conductive Education, the first time ever offered in Columbia, serving eight children with Cerebral Palsy in July of 2009.  The goal of The Therapy Place is to provide pediatric therapy services to children with special needs in the Midlands. We will provide innovative therapies to all children, regardless of their family’s ability to pay, and provide services closer to home.

Parents should not be faced with
"what if" they could provide more for their child.
